Peyto Lake

I thought I was going to be late for the morning picture of Peyto Lake. I have not been up there as much as I like to this year, so I was looking forward to spending a small amount of time in the morning. After taking the picture, I explored the area for a while before heading out.

Peyto Lake

It has been great spending more time taking pictures of various landscapes. Visiting few different areas and as well getting something different form the areas I visit often. Getting sunrise, sunset and night pictures. This one of Peyto Lake was several weeks back, when I took this picture of the sunset and hanged out afterward to get a night picture.

After watching a beautiful sunset at Peyto lake, I then decided to sit down among the rocks and watch the sky get darker and the stars make an appearance. Only sounds I could hear as the brighter stars were making their appearance, was of the vehicles when they would go over the rumble strips on the road in the distance, the water making its way down from Peyto Glacier and more then likely a pika moving among the rocks near me in the dark. I was still able to see some of the warm colours from the setting sun in the distance, in the clouds and in the fire smoke from the west. In the sky I could also see a glow, just a hint of  northern lights. Once my camera had taken the pictures I had planned, I packed up and and made my way to the car. Half way there, a small owl flew front of me. Nice way to end the trip.

I started out taking picture at Bow Lake when i saw the sky changing toward Peyto Lake. Got into the car and headed in that direction, got there just in time. No one was there, set up the gear and started taking pictures of the sunset. Sometimes it's that easy.

For me its hard to sleep in, just wondering what I might be missing  gets me up and gets me outside. So it always feels better just to get out there,  and since I like taking pictures of everything that falls under nature, I rarely come home empty handed and always come back feeling better. It feels great just walking in the woods going to work and coming back from work,  let along when taking picture of Northern Lights during the night and then deciding to stay out there to catch the  sunrise at one of the most beautiful place in the world. That`s the effect of nature.

Northern Lights over Peyto Lake

It was a good thing I had the following day off, because the night was short the northern lights did not become visible until well after mid-night and few hours later dawn was on its way. But before that took place, many of us got to see a beautiful light show in the sky, thanks to the Northern lights. One of the brightest moment was seeing a very bright shooting  star, did not get a picture of it, but something my brain will never let me forget. Once I was finish shooting the lights, I though I get an hour of rest before getting pictures of the sunrise. I was too excited to get any rest, before I knew it I was looking for a different spot to take pictures of the sunrise around Peyto Lake. The sunrise was great as well, picture of that a  another time.

Friends and I headed to 93 North, hoping to see something along the way and perhaps watch the sunset. There was no sighting of wildlife, but we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset at Peyto Lake.

Snow is taking its time staying around the bottom of the valley and below normal levels on top of mountains.  I decided to head over to the Bow Summit for short hikes around Peyto Lake. With higher elevation near the Bow Summit, found snow from the valley up. It looked beautiful seeing snow covered trees, looking forward to winter and photo opportunities. I was able to grab this image before leaving the viewpoint.

Winter was making its way into the park. As I was looking for the place to take pictures, I was thinking about a winter in the past when the snow really did not start falling until around New Year day. Walking on the shores of Peyto Lake, all covered by ice. Sounds were coming through the opening near the shores, thinking the sound that was being made was caused by some animal in the woods. But soon becoming wise enough to understand it was from air escaping from under the ice as water moved around. The year I took this picture, snow arrived in time.
